Ty Fortune, the Southside Jamaica Queens-bred artist, has captured the energy of Summer 2024 in his latest release, “Sunkissed.”
The track, a product of nearly a year’s worth of creative refinement, reflects the artist’s journey into a new sound while staying true to his roots. Recorded back in July of 2024, “Sunkissed” was born as Ty Fortune was putting the finishing touches on a playlist project he’s been working on diligently. “Coming from New York City, specifically Southside Jamaica Queens, I wanted to tap into the current popular sound that’s buzzing in my hometown,” Fortune explains. That sound is Sexy Drill, a style he infused into the track with the help of his close collaborator, Toronto-based producer KADDYX4.
The collaboration with KADDYX4 was an organic evolution that stemmed from a conversation the two had about what was missing from the project. “I told him I needed some sexy drill beats expeditiously, and KADDYX4 had been meaning to dabble with the sound himself for some time, so this was a no-brainer to execute.” The producer quickly sent over two beats, and Fortune knew instantly which one was right. “I automatically knew it was the one off the first listen,” he recalls. Sitting with the instrumental for a couple of days, he found the hook coming together in his mind almost effortlessly. Once the hook was down, the rest of the recording process took only a day to complete. “Sent it back to KADDYX4 and the rest is in the history books.”
Looking ahead, Fortune has big plans for the future of “Sunkissed,” including a music video and possibly even an endorsement deal. “A Sunkist soda endorsement would be a match made in heaven if you ask me,” he jokes. Beyond this release, he’s gearing up for the launch of his playlist project before the end of 2024, as well as the expansion of his independent record label, Fortune Sounds. “We’re working on getting the clothing brand portion of our company up and running by the end of the year so we can start selling merch beginning in 2025.”
