Watts native Mckinley Ave sat down with Cypress Moreno for a telling interview at BMG studios in Los Angeles. The Producer/ Rapper explains what brought him to change his name from “Black Chill” to Mckinley Ave recently, and the difference between the two eras of music he has operated in. Mckinley details his work as a producer in the early to mid 2000s with the likes of Ludacris, JLO and more as a member of the production duo Da Neckbones. The California rapper also expresses his reasoning for exiting the game for a period of time and also names IAMSU, YG among others for inspiring his return to making music. When asked about his new single “No Regular“, he recalls listening to the Mike Free and DJ Fu produced banger and feeling it needed that Young California sound for the hook, so he recruited one of LA’s hottest rappers RJ. As he preps an EP to be released in the coming weeks, Mckinley reveals his upcoming album ‘Did Dirt To Lay The Pavement‘ will feature Young Dolph, Compton AV, AD, Nipsey Hussle, Migos and more.
