Tylo TinyAmp’s collaboration on Crenshaw Madness with DJ Battlecat and Uncle Chucc is a powerful tribute to the spirit of Los Angeles, deeply inspired by Nipsey Hussle’s legacy and the essence of Crenshaw.
Reflecting on his journey, Tylo recalls how DJ Battlecat played a beat originally meant for Nipsey Hussle. “It was a blessing,” he says, emphasizing the weight of creating something magical from such an opportunity. The track instantly resonated, leading to a song that represents the heart of LA. “My favorite bar is ‘Crenshaw stretched from Wilshire to Torrance,’ because Crenshaw isn’t just a district—it’s the heartbeat of the city.”
Crenshaw Madness carries special significance for Tylo, not just because it was made with a beat for Nipsey, but because of the talent behind it. DJ Battlecat’s legendary production and Uncle Chucc’s soulful hook infuse the track with authenticity. “It was produced by a legend, for a legend, with another long-lost legend on the hook,” he reflects. For Tylo, the best part of the process was that it felt like home, while the hardest part was Uncle Chucc not being here to receive his due flowers for his contribution.
When it came to the video for Crenshaw Madness, the park scene stood out as a favorite for Tylo. “It was a real family function, something genuine,” he says, pointing to the community-driven energy that defines both the song and its visuals.
The release is more than just a track—it’s an ode to LA culture. “Crenshaw is so LA, and that’s what I expressed in this song,” Tylo explains, noting that the inspiration came from his love for the city. Production-wise, there was nothing he needed to change: “It was tailor-made.” The track delivers a West Coast feel reminiscent of Tupac’s California Love, encapsulating the essence of LA with a nostalgic yet fresh energy.
Collaborating with DJ Battlecat was especially meaningful for Tylo. “He’s like a big brother to me,” Tylo shares, humbled by working with a legend he deeply admires. “When we create, it’s magic, and I sit in awe of what he’s able to do.”
Tylo is equally focused on the future of his brand, Crenshaw By Nature. He plans to continue dropping fresh designs and visuals, while gearing up for new music releases, including collaborations with artists like Jason Cash and Dom Kennedy, with production from Grammy winner Don Cannon. He also takes a moment to shout out everyone who’s been part of his journey, from the streets of Crenshaw to his supporters today. “I didn’t start on my own, and I’m humble enough to know I need the support to continue.”
With “Crenshaw Madness,” Tylo TinyAmp solidifies his place in the West Coast scene, honoring legends while making waves of his own.
